CALL FOR PAPERS: STREAMING

Streaming platforms are bringing about a transformative shift in the global audiovisual industry. The local audiovisual market in Poland is experiencing notable changes due to the growing influence of these streaming platforms. While researchers in Anglo-American contexts extensively analyze the repercussions of global players like Netflix, Disney +, HBO Max, Apple or Amazon, the impact of these media giants’ activities have been overlooked in media and film studies in Poland. A current priority is to identify areas where the influence of Netflix, Disney and HBO and other streaming platforms on the Polish industry is substantial, leading to observable changes in established practices and work systems. Netflix is gaining ground on local broadcasters in producing original audiovisual content and has become a major contributor to the highest number of domestic feature series to date. The service is also disrupting the traditional feature film distribution. Consequently, Netflix's impact on the domestic audiovisual industry emerges as a rich and compelling research area. However, the most intriguing developments are not confined to the "small screen." Equally significant are the shifts in creative practices, the new market environment, innovative business models and evolving needs of local stakeholders. The areas of interest for this edited collection extend beyond content alone.
