About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Glottodidactica. An International Journal of Applied Linguistics focuses on applied linguistics in a broad sense with special attention paid to teaching and learning languages (glottodidactics). It means that although we publish articles on general linguistics, language pedagogy, translation, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, pragmalinguistics/sociopragmatics and other sub-fields, prospective authors should make sure that their texts indicate how the findings discussed by them can be applied to foreign/second language learning and teaching.

In a broad sense, our mission is to facilitate scientific international and interdsciplinar dialogue in the sub-field of glottodidactics and to promote exchange of good practices towards the development of this research area.

We admit submissions in English, German and French, as well as reviews of scientific books and conference reports in these languages.

We do not charge any fee for publishing with us, including for open access, therefore we do not have a special waiver policy for low and middle-income countries. We do not profit from subscription or pay per view fees either.

Publication process, including details of publishing ethics and review process: Information for authors

Two issues per year are published (on the 30th of June and 31st of December) via platform PRESSto. The editors offer authors to submit articles for regular or thematic volumes. Paper proposals can be submitted throughout the year.

Ethics

Original articles are considered for review - texts that have not been submitted at the same time for publication in another publication. Please do not submit articles that have been previously rejected by editors of other journals. In addition, please do not submit the texts of authors whose articles were created by recycling content or completely repeating/rephrasing the text.

Reliability, ethical attitude of Authors and fidelity to the highest editorial standards (including the principles of Core practices | COPE: Committee on Publication Ethics) are the principles guiding the editors of the journal Glottodidactica. Authors of submitted articles are responsible for adhering to the ethical principles and properly citing the sources they have used in the text. We kindly request that authors submit texts that comply with the editorial guidelines (see Wytyczne dla Autorów / Author Guidelines).

Authors should also comply with the regulations of the country and institution they represent that apply to the conduct of research involving human subjects or animals. When the Editors deem it appropriate, authors will be asked to provide an additional statement regarding research involving human subjects or animals.

The editors encourage members of the journal's Boards, reviewers, authors and readers to cooperate in improving the quality of the journal, especially in cases of suspected plagiarism and lack of scientific ethics (e.g., falsification or generation of research results by artificial intelligence) and falsification of authorship. The journal's editors make every effort to prevent conflicts of interest between authors and reviewers. For example, reviewers are encouraged to declare any instances of potential conflicting interests. In addition, selected reviewers who do not feel that they are the right fit for an article or know that writing an appropriate review is not possible should report this to the Editor and decline to write a review.

Copyright infringement may also be detected after the article is published. We encourage journal readers to report such violations. Any abuses involving scientific misconduct or ethical violations will be exposed (relevant institutions will be notified).

In contentious or questionable cases, the Editor-in-Chief of the journal decides on further steps, including referring a request to the UAM Ethics Committee or notifying the relevant departments of an offense subject to copyright law.

Authorship

Authorship of a publication should be understood as a significant and creative contribution to its creation, hence you should conscientiously consider your authorship if the publication was created using artificial intelligence. The author also bears legal responsibility for the published content and its consequences. In cases of doubt, contact the ethics committee at your university or the journal's editorial board in the first instance. You may also find helpful the information on authorship marking developed by COPE ( COPE_DD_A4_Authorship_SEPT19_SCREEN_AW.pdf (publicationethics.org)

In particular,

Authors are required to disclose any conflicts of interest occurring in connection with the potential publication of the text in the journal Glottodidactica.
Personal data and information requested by and provided to the Editor should be factually correct.
Authors are required to sign a statement prepared by Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and provided to them by the Editorial Board, as well as a license agreement for the publication of the article online.

In order to counteract the practices of ghostwriting and guest authorship, the editors of Glottodidactica ask the Authors to: -declare that their publication meets the ethical requirements for articles submitted to our journal; -define the percentage of actual intellectual contribution to the development of the article (providing affiliation and information about the authorship of concepts, methods, assumptions, etc.); -provide information about the sources of funding (e.g., the number and title of the grant and the name of the granting institution in a footnote).

By meeting these criteria, authors sign the Author's Declaration.

Since “Glottodidactica” - with the exception of translations selected by the Editorial Board - publishes only original texts, the submission of a previously published text in whole or in large part will be considered a violation of scientific ethics. In the event that parts of it have already been published, they should be clearly marked (with an appropriate footnote), and the decision to publish the text will be at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

Authors are obliged to reliably annotate with appropriate footnotes passages cited or referred to in the text of a study or thesis of someone else's authorship.
If the Authors find errors in their submitted text that is at the review stage or in other phases of the editorial process, they are obliged to notify the Editor as soon as possible.

Copyright infringement may also be discovered after the article has been published. Readers of the journal are encouraged to report such violations. Any abuse involving scientific dishonesty or violation of ethics will be exposed (relevant institutions will be notified). In this regard, the Editor-in-Chief will decide on appropriate steps based on the ethical principles in force at Adam Mickiewicz University and in Polish law.

The above regulations were drawn up on the basis of the principles developed by Suspected ethical problem in a submitted manuscript | COPE: Committee on Publication Ethics.

Anti-plagiarism policy

In order to counteract ghostwriting and guest authorship practices and to ensure the originality and high quality of published articles, articles are checked with an anti-plagiarism system. Articles that do not meet good publishing practices are rejected. The journal follows the latest procedures for evaluating them, and uses the Crossref Similarity Check  anti-plagiarism system using iThenticate software. The system makes it possible to identify similarities in a text by comparing it with publications available on the Internet and indexed databases, and identifying the sources of passages. Works found borrowing from other authors inappropriately cited or plagiarized will be rejected by the editors, while any abuse involving copyright infringement, scientific dishonesty or ethical violations will be exposed and reported to the management of the author's employing institutions. If plagiarism is found in a published work, the journal's editors will withdraw the text and post information about it on the journal's website and/or in the printed version.

Open access policy

The publisher provides open access (CC BY-ND 4.0 Międzynarodowe) to all journal content in accordance with the principle that freely available research enhances and accelerates global scientific development and knowledge exchange. The editors encourage authors to submit articles published in the journal to open access repositories and databases (the publisher's final version), provided they provide a link to the journal's website and the DOI number of the article.

Publication and reviewing process

Articles can be submitted continuously, only through the PRESSto platform. Standardly, it takes about a year to publish a paper with us. Selected papers are published as early birds on the journal's webpage.

The publishing process is displayed in the figure below.

Peer review process

ll submitted texts are subjected to formal evaluation by the Editor and Editorial Board. This phase lasts 2-3 weeks after the article is submitted. Texts that do not comply with the journal's guidelines in terms of content, language and scientific level are rejected. Article proposals are also initially evaluated for relevance to the scope of the journal. We kindly request that authors submit texts that comply with the editorial guidelines (see Author Guidelines).

After this pre-qualification, the articles proceed to the review stage.

More detailed information for Authors

  1. Authors are obliged to disclose any conflicts of interest arising in connection with the potential publication of the text in the journal "Glottodidactica."
  2. Personal data and information required by the Editorial Board should be accurate.
  3. Authors are required to sign a statement and a licensing agreement prepared by Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and provided to them by the Editorial Board regarding the publication of the article online.
  4. Since "Glottodidactica" - except for translations selected by the Editorial Board - publishes only original texts, submitting a text already published in whole or in large part will be considered a violation of scientific ethics. In case its fragments have already been published, they should be clearly marked (with appropriate footnote), and the decision to publish the text will be at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
  5. Authors are obliged to properly annotate with footnotes the fragments quoted or cited in the text of another author's research or thesis.
  6. In case authors find errors in their submitted texts at the review stage or at other stages of the editorial process, they are obliged to inform the Editorial Board as soon as possible.
  7. Authors should not simultaneously submit the same text to other journals. In case such a situation arises, they are obliged to inform the Editorial Board.

Peer Review Process: Information for Authors and Reviewers

  1. Each text is reviewed by two independent reviewers who are not employed at the Institute of Applied Linguistics of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. When submitting a proposal for an article, the author of the publication has the opportunity to suggest a potential reviewer, but only from abroad.
  2. Editorial reviews are prepared in accordance with the principles of "double-blind review", i.e., authors and reviewers do not know each other's names. Reviewers do not receive payment for their work.
  3. Reviewers should return their reviews within 12 weeks. In case of other obligations, they may submit the review at a later date.
  4. The journal's Editorial Board makes every effort to prevent conflicts of interest between authors and reviewers. We encourage reviewers, for example, to declare any potential conflicts of interest. In addition, selected reviewers who do not feel adequately matched to a particular article or know that writing an appropriate review is not possible should report this fact to the Editorial Board and refrain from writing a review.
  5. We make every effort to ensure that at least one of the reviewers is employed at a university outside of Poland. Reviewers work independently of each other. Only members of the Editorial Team contact reviewers and authors. In special cases where there is a lack of experts in a given field or language, the Editorial Board may decide to send a given article to one, usually foreign, reviewer.
  6. Reviews are prepared in written form (on the review form, see below) and clearly indicate the acceptance or rejection of the text for publication in the journal. Signed reviews by reviewers are the property of the journal and are archived in accordance with applicable regulations, especially GDPR and Ethical guidelines for peer reviewers | COPE: Committee on Publication Ethics, https://doi.org/10.24318/cope.2019.1.9.

Reviewers and the review process: More detailed information for reviewers

Reviewer's Code of Ethics

To prevent undesirable phenomena of ghostwriting (not disclosing the true contribution to the publication, not disclosing one's own contribution to the publication or acknowledgments) and guest authorship (listing one's name as a co-author with little or no contribution to the work) and to promote honesty and transparency in the review process, as well as adherence to the highest editorial standards, the Glottodidactica editorial team asks reviewers to:

  1. Report any potential conflict of interest regarding the presumed authors of the text they have been assigned to review.
  2. Report any form of violation of intellectual property (e.g., double publication of the same article, etc.) known to the reviewer.

The editorial staff of Glottodidactica ensures:

  1. proper selection of reviewers who are experts in the thematic area of the article;
  2. smooth conduct of the review process;
  3. ensuring the anonymous course of the review process on both sides (authorial and reviewer).

Reviewer's duties:

  1. to prepare a review that should be logically coherent and maintain an objective tone, with clear and unambiguous conclusions;
  2. to perform the review within the agreed timeframe;
  3. to maintain discretion regarding the reviewed text.

Reviewing process from the reviewer's perspective:

  1. The reviewer is asked to conduct the review within a suitable timeframe.
  2. By agreeing to review, the reviewer declares that the review will be conducted independently, objectively, and in accordance with the best knowledge.
  3. The reviewer receives an anonymized version of the article with an indication of the deadline by which the review should be returned.
  4. The review is conducted using the review form.
  5. The reviewer has the following options: acceptance of the text, acceptance of the text with suggested corrections, or rejection of the text.
  6. By returning the review form with suggested corrections, the reviewer may request to reread the text and accept its final form.
  7. Reviewers' names are printed once a year in the Glottodidactica journal and on the website.
  8. Reviewers do not receive remuneration for their reviews. The Editorial Board issues certificates of inclusion on the List of Reviewers when necessary.
  9. The decisive voice in disputed matters between the Reviewer and the Author lies with the Editor-in-Chief of the journal.

This code was prepared on the basis recommendations contained in the document “Good practices in review procedures in science”, published by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Good practices in reviewing Poland  and in Ethical guidelines for peer reviewers COPE

  10. Review forms are at:
    Formularz recenzji: DOCXPDF
    Stellungnahme: DOCX / PDF
    Review Form: DOCX / PDF

  11.  Unpublished materials attached to the submitted text may not be used in the reviewer's research without acknowledging the legitimate authorship. Information and concepts that the reviewer becomes acquainted with during the review process must be kept confidential and may not be used for personal purposes.
  12. Reviews are provided to the authors of individual texts but are not published along with the articles. Original versions of reviews with signatures are the property of the journal and are archived in accordance with the binding regulations at Adam Mickiewicz University.
  13. The final decision on the publication of the article is made by the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Team, and Editorial Council. This decision is irreversible.
  14. In the case of one positive and one negative review, the author is obliged to revise the work so that it is accepted by the reviewer who originally rejected the text for publication. An article approved for publication must have two positive reviews.
  15. Authors of rejected articles may revise their texts according to reviewers' comments and resubmit them for publication. Revised versions undergo the review process again.
