Abstract

The article presents the design and implementation of a task-based English language course tailored for Industry 4.0, a growing sector characterised by advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and automation. The course, developed within a practical applied linguistics program, emerged from the analysis of the needs of the local labour market and consultations with stakeholders within and outside the institution, including students, faculty members, and local industry representatives. The course places an emphasis on preparing students for real-world tasks, such as analysis of technical documents, human-machine communication, and inter-departmental business relations, all vital in Industry 4.0 environments. The steps involved in the needs analysis and course design are outlined, including how specific tasks and linguistic structures relevant to the industry were incorporated.
