Abstract

Aleksander Doliński, professor at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lvov in 1895-1930, was one of the most renown Polish civil law jurists and experts in commercial law at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. His main interests included the law of bills of exchange, cooperative law and law of private insurance. He combined his research work with active engagement in the organisation of the teaching of legal sciences. As a member of the Codification Committee of the Republic of Poland appointed by the Polish Seym in 1919, he was also partially responsible for the contents of the provisions that regulated limited liability companies and intended to combat unfair competition.
A professor of law, he was a teacher and master of numerous future lawyers, many of them eminent civil law specialists, and was a co-founder of the school of legal scholars which eventually led to the drafting, in 1934, of the Commercial Code. He is an author of a number of course books on law that served many generations. His works helped to eliminate instances of particularism in the law, being the reminiscence of the times when Poland was partitioned, and to integrate the legal system of the second Republic of Poland.
