Abstract
The reviewing article is dedicated to the monograph by Łukasz Smorczewski, Administracja diecezji Pontu w późnym Cesarstwie Rzymskim, Poznań 2019, issued as a 2nd volume of the series “Bibliotheca Classica et Byzantina.” The book by Smorczewski describes the history of Pontus dioecesis in the late Roman Empire from its creation at the beginning of the 4th century till the emergence of a thematic system. The author discusses the problems of shaping the dioecesis in the 4th century, its internal structure, as well as the competences of the head of this territorial unit: the vicar. The author offers a good description of the scientific discussion of the problems connected to that territorial unit of the Empire. An important part of the Smorczewski's monograph is played by prosopographical studies, placed at the end of this book.
